Workforce Development Specialist

This is a limited position for 2 years.

Department: Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)
Reports To: CSBG Program Director
Salary Range: $35,000-$40,000 annually

Function: The Workforce Development Specialist is responsible for conducting Vocational Assessments and creating employment opportunities through Job Development. 

Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services, Human Resources, Business or related field is required with a minimum of 2 years experience working with individuals who are in need of vocational rehabilitation/job modification.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides opportunities for career exploration through job shadowing, business tours, work experiences, mock interviewing, resume development, etc.
  • Builds effective relationships with employers that will maximize an employee’s likeliness to be successful; including building natural supports within the workplace.
  • Works with the Production Manager to promote job development, enclaves, and mobile work crews to outside businesses, which includes creating work opportunities for participants who are in training/skill development programs.
  • Supports current workers and new referrals with job seeking/development support/job coaching, which will assist them with obtaining and maintaining community employment.
  • Provides opportunities for participants to be active in the vocational rehabilitation/job search process.
  • Provides the needed support, to both participants and employer when a job has been obtained, which ensures the highest possible satisfaction and success on the job.
  • Maintains open and professional communication with participants, staff, families, funding sources, employers, and the business community.
  • Completes and maintain all related documentation in accordance with the agency standard including; program evaluation data, monthly progress reports, employer contact logs, as well as any additional required documentation.
  • Participates in related grant projects; by attending training, completing required documentation, measuring and recording outcomes, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CSBG Program Director.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of counseling and vocational rehabilitation concepts.
  • Ability to model, and develop in others, appropriate work behavior.
  • Understanding of employer expectations for community employment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.
  • Ability to interact with people from culturally diverse backgrounds and display strong customer relation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to problem-solve issues.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must be honest, dependable and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must exercise sound judgment in making decisions and act accordingly.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Mental and/or Visual Demands:

  • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching.
  • Mental and visual concentration required for preparing and analyzing data using a computer.
