Department: Division of Children and Families
Supervisor: Center Supervisor
Function: To assist in planning and implementing teaching activities and the total program for a class of children.
Education/Formal Training: Preferably High School Diploma/GED
Work Experience: Preferably a Head Start parent or person from the local community who is familiar with the Head Start program.
Aptitudes: Interested in working with children and the disadvantaged; ability to relate to people; ability to assist in record keeping; ability to keep confidentiality of records and communications.
Participate in a 2-day substitute teacher orientation and substitute teacher trainings.
Assist in planning and implementing daily program and educational curriculum for children in the classroom.
Help each child to develop positive self-image.
Establish a relationship of trust with the children and be aware of their needs.
Maintain positive interactions with children, parents, community, and staff.
Support the agency’s policy of No Corporal Punishment by utilizing appropriate guidance techniques.
Assist in maintaining appropriate records and reports.
Assist in working with parents, volunteers, and the community.
Assist in executing housekeeping responsibilities of the classroom and center.
Support and interpret Head Start objectives, concepts, and goals.
Support and interpret WAGES mission.
Other job related duties as assigned by the teacher/center supervisor.
Physical Demands:Lifting children and heavy objects; cleaning classrooms.
