Senior Companion Program Coordinator

Job Title:          Senior Companion Program Coordinator                             (Non-Exempt)

Department:      Division of Older Adult Services

Supervisor:       Senior Volunteer Programs Manager

Function:          Provides direction and coordination for Senior Companion Program. Responsible for compliance with funding sources both state and federal regulations and laws. Provides counseling and encouragement to Senior Companions (SC) to ensure effective and meaningful assignments and make follow-up visits.  Responsible for monthly in-service trainings and assists the Program Manager in screening, recruitment and training of Senior Companions and other delegated responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education/Formal Training: Preferably a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Human Services; Experience in managing and working with volunteer programs and senior population preferred.
  2. Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 years in volunteer supervision or human services experience.
  3. Aptitudes: Ability to provide counseling and encouragement to Senior Companions to ensure effective and meaningful volunteer placements. Ability to apply management principles and company policies. Ability to maintain a high level of productivity and above-average quality of work without supervision. Ability to accurately and efficiently operate personal computer, word-processing software and other general office machines. Good interpersonal skills and listening skills; problem-solving ability.
  4. Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct unannounced follow-up visits to SC in home placements to monitor the satisfaction of the SC’s with their assignments and the progress of clients in reaching established objectives.
  2. Maintain regular communication with the senior volunteers.
  3. Complete home placements of Senior Companions with Care Plans for clients and issue mileage reimbursement with approval of Program Manager.
  4. Evaluate the services of the SC by conducting personal interviews with Senior Companions, clients and
  5. Manage distribution/collection of volunteer time sheets and pay stubs.
  6. Plan and conduct all monthly in-service trainings for SC volunteers.
  7. Plan and implement volunteer recognition events with assistance from the Program Manager.
  8. Work with Program Manager in coordinating a well functioning advisory council.
  9. Prepare and present quarterly reports to SC advisory council.
  10. Provide leadership in day-to-day activities of the SC office or otherwise assist the Manager in daily program operations as deemed appropriate.
  11. Coordinate volunteer transportation with program van drivers.
  12. Assist the Manager in recruitment, screening, placement and supervising SCs to ensure successful and productive volunteers.
  13. Complete and provide required documentation to Program Secretary for volunteer records including client data sheets, client termination sheets, income verifications, physical exam reports etc.)
  14. Maintain harmonious working relationships with local agencies providing assistance to senior citizens.
  15. Compile and Maintain SC Project Profile information.
  16. Coordinate recognition activities and training programs.
  17. Complete National Service Criminal History Check eCourse and maintain annual certification.
  18. Administer policies and procedures for SC Program in conjunction with Agency policies and procedures.
  19. Other duties as assigned by Program Manager in accordance with SCP Federal Grant guidelines.

Compensation: $13.00 to $15.00 per hour
