FAQ – Nutrition/Meals On Wheels

How does a person qualify for Meals on Wheels?

The WAGES Meals on Wheels service is available for those who are homebound, unable to prepare meals for themselves and who have no one in the home to prepare meals for them. The Congregate Nutrition Program is available for seniors age 60 and over who are not homebound. There are two Congregate Nutrition sites: Mt. Olive Senior Center and the Goldsboro Senior Center.

What is the cost of the meals?

The WAGES Meals on Wheels program operates with a cost-sharing plan for participants. This means the participants are given the opportunity to make voluntary donations. This program income is used to provide additional meals only.

When are the meals delivered?

The WAGES Nutrition Program for the Elderly serves home delivered meals and meals in the congregate setting Monday through Friday for the noon time meal. Meals are served year round, except for designated holidays.

Do you need volunteers for meal delivery?

Yes! Volunteers deliver over 325 meals daily in Goldsboro and around the county. It takes about one hour to deliver meals. Our volunteer coordinator Andrea Bone schedules and trains all volunteers. Volunteers need a car, valid driver’s license, and a willingness to spend an hour delivering meals and a brief hello to homebound Wayne County residents. Call Andrea at (919) 734-1178, ext. 281 to volunteer.
