Job Title:          Early Head Start Home Based Educator/Home Visitor (bilingual)

Classification:  Non-exempt

Department:     Division of Children and Families / Non-classroom

Supervisor:       Education Manager

Function:          To plan and implement teacher activities and total program for infants & toddlers in the home setting; to work collaboratively with parents and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education/Formal Training: Preferably an AA or BS degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Minimum requirement is a Home Visitor Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and North Carolina Child Care Credential I and II. First Aid/CPR Certification.
  2. Work Experience: Preferably a Head Start/Early Head Start parent or a child care provider who is familiar with the programs and/or from within the target area; experience working with infant/toddlers.
  3. Requirements/Aptitudes: Must be bilingual (Spanish / English).Ability to work with children and the economically disadvantaged; ability to assist in recordkeeping duties; ability to provide exceptional customer service and develop mutually respectful relationships with parents; must maintain confidentiality; must have current annual physical including Tuberculin test or chest x-ray.
  4. Essential Responsibilities:

a. Plan and make home visits to children and families.

b. Participate in recruitment activities, screening and group meeting with parents.

c. Maintain and keep records on home visits.

d. Report developmental assessments to supervisor.

e. Participate in orientation, pre-service and in-service training, parent meetings and all staff functions.

f. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate small group and individual activities for children in a home setting.

g. Supervise infant-toddler play activities in a home setting and small group setting (socializations).

h. Plan, develop, and coordinate socializations twice each month.

i. Recommend infant-toddler play activities in a home setting and small group setting (socializations).

j. Interact positively with infants in moving toward independence.

k. Maintain quality environments for young children, including sanitation of toys, materials, etc. in accordance with day care guidelines.

l. Maintain all sanitation and facility licensing requirements at all times.

m. Work cooperatively with parents, staff, volunteers and the community.

n. Develop and implement daily individualized lesson plans that meet program requirements.

o. Make weekly 90- minute home visits to implement individualized activities with infants/toddlers and their families.

p. Complete a professional development plan and maintain and update all certifications, credentials and other training as required.

q. In addition to pre-service training, complete annually 25 clock hours of training related to the field of Early Childhood Education.

r. Participate in training and other activities relevant to the job.

s. Support and interpret WAGES objectives, goals and concepts, and WAGES mission and program to child, parent and community.

t. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or program director.

  1. Physical Demands: Bending or squatting to speak/interact with children on their eye level, lifting of children and or heavy objects.

Entry Compensation:  $9.00-$12.00 hourly
