Job Title:             Bilingual Family Social Worker

Classification:     Non – Exempt

Department:        Division of Children and Families

Supervisor:          Family Services Coordinator

Function:             To assist in the planning and implementing of services to Latino families; to create trusting partnerships with families that build on family strengths, provide necessary supports to meet family goals, and optimize the home environment for the physical, mental, and emotional well being of children and their families by assisting them in strengthening the parent/ relationship, reducing family stress, and meeting the needs of the parents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education/Formal Training: Preferably a BA/BS degree in Social Work; Early Childhood Education or other human service related field.
  2. Work Experience: Experience working with children and families and the Latino community.
  3. Requirements/Aptitudes: Excellent written and oral communication skills; Bilingual (Spanish & English); ability to establish good rapport with others; good problem solving skills; comfortable with in-home visitation; must have a valid driver’s license.
  4. Essential Responsibilities:
    1. Be knowledgeable of and utilize community resources. Serve as a liaison between families and other community agencies advocating for parents as needed, and ensure each family is provided information regarding community resources so that they may seek services on their own behalf.
    2. Provide or arrange for transportation for families as needed to and from medical and/ or social services appointments, center functions, outings, social events, and employment.
    3. Assist with providing families a variety of trainings, educational, and literacy opportunities in cooperation with other agency staff and community organizations to strengthen their knowledge of child development and employability.
    4. Work collaboratively with Center Supervisors to ensure that center programming meets the needs of children and families (when applicable).
    5. Assist in the recruitment and enrollment of eligible children and families in WAGES Early Head Start/Head Start programs.
    6. Assist in planning and the implementation of culturally responsive program services.
    7. Translate materials and relevant documents into Spanish for CYF programs.
    8. Periodically assist in conducting assessments of applications at Wayne Memorial Hospital for Wayne County First Steps and Early Head Start Program.
    9. Assist Children and Families staff, as frequently as possible, in Spanish interpretation when in contact with families to ensure effective communication between the programs and all parents.
    10. Be knowledgeable and utilize WAGES Policy and Procedures, Work Plan, and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
    11. Inform supervisor immediately of circumstances which may require that a client be referred to Child Protective Services because of “imminent” or “threatened” harm, abuse or neglect.
    12. Plan, develop, and participate in all special events, groups, and activities that are initiated by Children and Families.
    13. Record and maintain written record of professional activities, client observations and activities as required. Submit all reports in a timely fashion.
    14. Attend staff development opportunities and obtain additional training as recommended by supervisor throughout the program year.
    15. Comply with all WAGES personnel policies.
    16. Work cooperatively with agency staff, parents, volunteers and community to foster coordinated and integrated program operations.
    17. Support and interpret WAGES mission, programs, objectives, concepts, and goals.
    18. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director for C&F.

 

Compensation minimum:  $29,000 – $33,000
